Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens Endorses Republican Mike Rogers for Senate

Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate in Michigan on Sunday.

Stevens attended a church service with Rogers at Perfecting Church in Detroit. She touted her support for investing in black businesses during the appearance.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, "This is a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens." Michigan Democratic Party chairman Curtis Hertel said Stevens "is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future."

Stevens’ longtime chief of staff Justin German and communications director Logan Basch resigned after the endorsement. Rogers said he was honored by the support and called it a statement about standing together against hate. His campaign said internal polling shows him ahead.

El-Sayed’s campaign raised $2.4 million on Sunday. The Michigan Senate race is for the seat held by retiring Democrat Gary Peters and could determine control of the Senate after Tuesday’s election.

El-Sayed defeated Stevens by a slim margin in the August Democratic primary.
