Jon Ossoff (D) Defeats Mike Collins (R) to Win Reelection in Georgia Senate Race
Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff defeated Republican Rep. Mike Collins to win reelection to the Senate from Georgia.
DDHQ projected the win for Ossoff, who led Collins in most public polls throughout the race and built an early lead with strong fundraising.
The victory protects Democratic prospects for Senate control in one of the most competitive states for the chamber.
Ossoff turned the contest into a referendum on President Donald Trump’s falling approval ratings, tariffs and the war in Iran, all of which remained unpopular with voters.
Collins faced scrutiny over a former staffer who shared Nazi and KKK images online and over his son-in-law’s promotion of white nationalist posts.
Collins defended the war in Iran saying Iran can’t be allowed to have a nuclear weapon and said tariffs were fair due to Savannah Port and Brunswick Port.
Ossoff had been viewed as one of the most exposed Democratic incumbents, but an anti-Trump climate and controversies around Collins allowed him to win.
Republicans once saw the seat as one of their best pickup chances after Georgia moved right in the prior election.
Ossoff said last month during a debate that he would serve a full second term rather than seek higher office.
